Between 1873 and 1902, compressed-air powered trams were set in several french and swiss cities. It was the first time compressed air was used for transport, the process was invented by Louis Mékarski, a french engineer. First, the compressed air was produced in a factory and then it was sent to the vehicle’s reservoirs through some pipes. This technology was used during forty years approximatively, it was replaced by electric trams afterwards.
